Carín León can now add a new accolade to his music career: Grammy winner. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, the Mexican superstar won in the Best Música Mexicana Album category with stiff competition from Peso Pluma and Chiquis.

León has become known for his unique blend of música mexicana and country music. Last year, the Hermosillo, Sonora native broke down barriers for Mexican artists by performing at Coachella, Stagecoach, and the Grand Ole Opry. He has since collaborated with artists from different genres, including Leon Bridges in “It Was Always You (Siempre Fuiste Tú).” That song was included on León’s Boca Chueca, Vol. 1 album, released last May. The LP also features his country-infused hit “Despídase Bien.”

The 2024 Latin Grammy Awards in November might have foreshadowed León’s win against Peso Pluma. Both artists were nominated for Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album with Boca Chueca, Vol. 1 taking the award. León’s LP was nominated again for Best Música Mexicana Album at the 2025 Grammys against Peso Pluma’s Éxodo, Chiquis’ Diamantes, and Jessi Uribe’s De Lejitos. Now, León has won his very first Grammy award.

“I’m overjoyed by what just happened,” León shared in a statement. “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being part of this dream; congratulations to all the nominees. Long live Mexico, long live Sonora, and long live la H [Hermosillo].”

One song from León’s latest album, Palabra De To’s, has gone viral. He recently spoke out in support of “De Compas” becoming an unexpected anthem for his gay fans.
