On Tuesday (November 15), Eva Mendes (Hitch) shared a photo of herself online showing off a tattoo she has on the inside of her left wrist.
Now, some people are wondering if the small tattoo means that Mendes and her boyfriend of 11 years, Ryan Gosling, tied the knot. The reason: The tattoo text reads “de Gosling.”
In many Spanish-speaking cultures, a husband’s last name is sometimes added to the end of the wife’s last name and separated by the conjunction “de” (of). If Mendes, who is of Cuban descent, followed this naming convention, her full name after she married Gosling would be Eva Mendes de Gosling. It has a nice ring to it if you ask us.
Sadly, the “de Gosling” tattoo theory probably isn’t true since the tattoo isn’t new. Although Mendes has never shown off the ink as clearly as she did this week, a photo of it was taken back in April 2021. At that time, people wondered about the couple’s relationship status.
In the comments section of her “de Gosling” photo, hair and makeup artist Steeve Daviault, who has worked with Mendes before, asked her if the tattoo was real. Mendes replied: “Ummm…it’s old. You’ve seen it many times.”
Apparently, no one is paying any attention to Mendes’ wrists these days. Back in September, Mendes posted a photo of herself touching wildflowers and the “de Gosling” tattoo was visible.
So, if, in fact, Mendes’ tattoo means her and Gosling are officially married, the wedding didn’t happen recently. But now it’s making us wonder if Gosling, perhaps, has a “de Mendes” tattooed somewhere on him as well.
