Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have tied the knot. The couple was married in a small ceremony in Las Vegas this past Saturday (July 16), and Twitter is lighting up.
âWe did it,â Lopez wrote in a recent newsletter to her fans. âLove is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.â
Lopez and Affleck first met on the set of the film Gigli in 2002 and got engaged. Their relationship, however, ended in 2004, and the duo went on to marry and start their own families. Lopez was married to Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 and had a set of twins. Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018 and had three children.
Bennifer, as they were nicknamed during their time together in the early aughts, rekindled their romance in 2021 and announced they were engaged a second time this past April, 18 years after their initial split.
âIn the end, it was the best possible wedding we could have imagined,â Lopez wrote. âOne we dreamed of long ago and one made real ⌠at very, very long last.â
News of their nuptials got social media users talking â especially about the history of the coupleâs romance and the many years their marriage was in the making.
Twitter users also discussed the fact that Lopez took Affleckâs last name. She signed her newsletter to fans, âWith love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck,â although weâre guessing sheâll probably use Jennifer Lopez professionally. JFleck doesnât have the same ring as JLo. None of us know where in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this marriage falls anyway.
Others read the news and werenât sure what decade they were in.
Still, most people were happy for âBennifer 2.0.â â just as long as a sequel to Gigli doesnât come out of it. Sorry, not sorry, JLo and Ben Affleck.
