Bad Bunny made a surprise appearance at a political rally in Puerto Rico last night (November 3). In an impassioned speech about the future of the island, the Puerto Rican superstar also endorsed one of the candidates running for governor.

Bad Bunny is no stranger to being political with his platform. After encouraging Puerto Ricans to vote in the island’s 2024 gubernatorial election, he later rallied against the New Progressive Party (PNP). Bad Bunny bought billboards that advocated people to not vote for the political party that has long ruled Puerto Rico.

Last night, he appeared at the Festival de la Esperanza, which was hosted by La Alianza, a coalition of political parties that are in favor of Puerto Rico’s independence. In a speech talking about his hopes for the island, Bad Bunny also revealed that he previously voted for PNP’s Luis Fortuño in the 2012 gubernatorial election.

“My first vote was for one of the biggest culprits of the debt that the people have to pay for today, a traitor who left more than 30,000 families without jobs, including my family,” he said in Spanish. “Nobody told me about it. I lived through it. I was born and raised here. I dream of people who are awake and recognize the strength we have, that the people rule here and not the political parties. The same two parties have destroyed our country. Two parties are to blame for this crisis and situation.”

Bad Bunny also endorsed one of the candidates that is running for governor of Puerto Rico. He is putting his support behind Juan Dalmau of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP). Dalmau is a third-party candidate that faces competition from PNP’s Jenniffer González-Colón and Jesús Manuel Ortiz of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP).

“The people have chosen a candidate,” Bad Bunny said. “It is you who have inspired me once again. It is you, the people of Puerto Rico, who have told me that this November 5th we must vote for Juan Dalmau and La Alianza.”

At the rally, Bad Bunny also performed his recent single “Una Velita,” which talked about how Puerto Rico is still recovering from the 2017 Hurricane Maria disaster.

Last month, Bad Bunny also showed support for Vice President Kamala Harris after she revealed her plan for Puerto Rico under her administration. The last day to vote in both the gubernatorial and presidential races is tomorrow, November 5.
