Anna Faris is back with a movie sequel that hits right in the nostalgia. That’s right, the sixth installment of the Scary Movie franchise is here, and Faris is reprising her iconic role of Cindy Campbell after a 20-year break. And Cindy isn’t the only one back; the final girl is coming out of retirement alongside her best friend, Brenda Meeks (played by Regina Hall), to once again make fun of the new wave of modern horror films and viral internet trends.

Faris was recently in Mexico City promoting the movie, and during a fan event at Cinemex Plaza Carso, she was part of a viral moment when she danced with a performer dressed as “La Monja de la Feria.”  She also greeted fans with “¡Viva México!”

“Mexico City is a memory that I will cherish forever,” Faris told Remezcla Trending Editor Lyra Hale about the moment. “I felt like I won something. I felt so much joy, and what an incredible city. I felt like I was a part of a superhero movie,” she shared. “I was crying, like, a lot,” she added. “I just felt so much love, and I had so much love to give, you know?”

Faris also spoke about what makes Cindy such an iconic character. “Cindy’s like… to me, she’s a little annoying. And she just keeps living. You just can’t kill her. Like, she should die, it’s time for her, it’s time for Cindy to go.” We don’t agree there.

“She’s not offering anything,” Faris laughed. “I think there’s some kind of acknowledgement of that somewhere in the Scary Movie headspace that, I think, you can try hard to kill the white girl who’s always terrified, whose intentions are good, but you can’t. So, you’re like, I will survive.”

Faris might joke around (that’s her vibe), but Cindy and her friendship with Brenda are why we keep on coming back to the franchise. And when it comes to that, Faris had a lot to say. “I love the friendship between Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, and getting to work with Regina, and I’m proud that we’re tight, and that we developed… that we were the ones that nurtured our love for each other; I think you can feel it. I hope you can. So, getting to do this whole… I hate using the word journey, but I guess I have to, has been incredible for me. It’s really exciting.”

And to prove how much her experience in Mexico City marked her, Faris brought it back before our interview finished. “Truly, being in Mexico City was a highlight of my life. A highlight of my life. It was really, really wonderful for me.”

Sometimes the things that worked over two decades ago can work again. Scary Movie 6 is proof of that. And Anna Faris is still as funny today as she was twenty years ago, albeit in a different way.

Scary Movie 6 will be in theaters on June 5.
