2022 was marked by a myriad of innovative sounds. We’re in an exciting era where artists are not only producing genre-bending collaborations, but also pioneering never-before-heard sounds that are a significant part of this year’s best in music. Take the fresh sounds of Eslabón Armado’s emo regional tracks and DannyLux’s rock-tampered corridos, for example. Gen Z artists are reshaping and modernizing Regional’s traditional soundscapes, ushering in new subgenres to mainstream music.
That’s not all we’ve seen this year, though. We’ve also witnessed seasoned artists who are opening up more than ever on collabs outside their respective genres, like Natanael Cano and Tokischa’s unexpected corrido tumbado “Kilos de Amor.” Similarly, other musicians are notably expanding their musical palettes, such as Divino Niño did in their recent album Last Spa On Earth. These music pieces are merely surface examples of ingenious, coloring outside-the-lines projects that are part of our end-of-year lists for 2022.
We also saw top-tier artists like Julieta Venegas reclaim her space in the alternative rock genre; as well as Bizarrap cement himself as a trap hitmaker with his continuous viral jams that stayed on top of music streaming charts. Moreover, we can’t write enough about how Bad Bunny put the Latine community on top with his Caribbean-inspired masterpiece Un Verano Sin Ti.
But that still doesn’t do justice to all the wonderful music offerings we were given this year.
From energy-bursting, perreo-ready songs to emotional and indie tracks and groovy dance songs that were our instant go-to’s this year, Remezcla compiled a total of 50 songs – five 10-track EOY lists – that captured 2022’s best music in the following genres: reggaeton & trap Songs, dembow, corridos & Regional, indie & alt-rock, and pop & dance.
