America Ferrera’s Barbie speech became one of the defining moments of 2023, the kind that reminds women everywhere that they don’t have to be what society expects of them. Now, that speech and Ferrera’s performance as Gloria is being rewarded with her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Ferrera will be competing against Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, Jodie Foster for Nyad, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers.

The reactions from the internet were joyful and immediate, praising her and that monologue.

There was also some commentary on how her having an Oscar just feels right.
