Bad Bunny is adding to his resume. Netflix has tapped the global superstar to be executive producer of the upcoming adaptation of They Both Die at the End

The book by Puerto Rican author Adam Silvera, which gives away the ending in the title, follows the tragically doomed love between Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio. The LGBTQ sci-fi novel takes readers on a journey in a world where a company called Death-Cast calls people to inform them that they have 24 hours left to live. These people are called Deckers and, fortunately, there is an app dedicated to helping lonely Deckers find someone to spend their last day with.

What follows is a bittersweet love story of two star-crossed lovers spending their Final Day living authentically and without fear after meeting on the app Last Friend.

They Both Die at the End was also the first time that a story about LGBTQ Latine people made it to the No. 1 spot of the New York Times bestseller list when it was released in 2017. The pandemic gave the book another moment to rise in the American consciousness and TikTok helped make it the No. 1 book of 2021.

The show was originally in development at HBO but Netflix has landed the adaptation with Chris Van Dusen, the creator of Bridgerton and Drew Comins, the executive producer of Yellowjacket.

This is the next step in Bad Bunny’s newly found career in entertainment. In 2022, we watched as Bad Bunny grew as an actor starring in Bullet Train following his experiences on Narcos: Mexico and American Sole. And soon we’ll see him as Marvel’s El Muerto.

Congratulations, Benito!
