Crystal Methyd is ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ First Mexican-American Winner

The winner of the season 11 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars just made history. Crystal Methyd has become the first drag queen of Mexican descent to take the crown on the U.S. franchise of the show.
Crystal Methyd originally competed on season twelve of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2020. The Mexican-American drag queen, who hails from Springfield, MO, came in as a runner-up. Crystal Methyd returned to the franchise this year as a competitor on season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. During her return, she ended up winning four maxi challenges, including both episodes in the semi-finals.
For the season finale, the six remaining queens battled it out in a disco lip-sync smackdown for the crown. First, Crystal Methyd defeated Jasmine Kennedie to Amii Stewart’s “Knock on Wood.” The final lip-sync battle came down to Crystal Methyd and wildcard pick Joey Jay.
Using her kooky personality and performance style, Crystal Methyd emerged against Joey Jay in the lip-sync to Donna Summer’s “MacArthur Park.” She became the first queen of Mexican descent to ever win the U.S. franchise, which includes RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. Last year, Ginger Minj, who is of Puerto Rican descent, became the first Latina winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
Crystal Methyd recently made sure to highlight her Mexican heritage with an extravagant gown that included Aztec inspiration. When RuPaul announced her as the winner, Crystal Methyd said, “I feel so proud to represent for Latinas and I’m also dedicating this one to all you weirdos.”
With her win, Crystal Methyd became the first queen of Mexican descent to be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame. She also took home a cash prize of $200,000. Past Latina fan-favorite drag queens will soon return for Drag Race México: Latina Royale.
The all-Latina spin-off competition will start streaming on WOW Presents Plus on July 30.
