The highly anticipated film and Oscar contender Emilia Pérez is coming soon to theaters and Netflix. In addition to announcing the release dates, the streamer also revealed a new trailer for the movie that stars Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón.

Back in 2022, it was announced that Saldaña and Gomez were tapped for the Emilia Pérez by French director Jacques Audiard. The movie is a mix of crime drama set in Mexico with a musical twist. Saldaña plays a lawyer who helps a Mexican cartel leader fake their death to evade the authorities and undergo sex reassignment surgery. There appears to be a bit of romance blossoming between Saldaña and the titular character played by Spanish trans actress Gascón.

Emilia Pérez officially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival back in May. After receiving a lengthy standing ovation, the movie won the Jury Prize. The women on the cast, Saldaña, Gomez, Gascón, and Adriana Paz, also won the award there for Best Actress. Gascón made history as the first woman to win the award at the prestigious film festival. The new trailer by Netflix shows the cast in emotional moments and performing musical numbers as their characters. A soaring song in Spanish is played where the name of Gascón’s Emilia is repeated.

Emilia Pérez will be released to select theaters in the U.S. on November 1. The movie will then start streaming on Netflix on November 13. In addition to the awards from Cannes, the film was also part of the official selection for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and New York Film Festival. There’s already plenty of Oscar buzz building around Emilia Pérez and its stellar cast.

In addition to the big screen, Gomez will soon return to the TV screen in Disney’s Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a spin-off of Wizards of Waverly Place, later this year.
