When it comes to showing up and showing out for love, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are no strangers to public displays of affection. In light of Gosling’s 2024 Oscar nomination, Eva Mendes has taken to Instagram to share her pride and support for her husband’s role and professional accomplishments in the Barbie movie.

“So proud of my man. So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it.” Says Mendes in a caption shown alongside screenshots of a Rolling Stone headline and excerpts from the article calling his role ‘cringe’ and ‘Just bad.’ Mendes adds “Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars. So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie.”

Mendes’ post received several comments in support of Gosling’s performance.

“He is brilliant as Ken! Pulled off a triple somersault performance,” commented Barbie costar, America Ferrera, adding that he “continues to show up to support all the women in this process!!”

“That was such a hard role to pull off! And he did so with flying colors and made it so much fun AND endearing,” commented Padma Lakshi.

Mendes’ post comes a day after Gosling released a public statement in light of his Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Barbie,  where criticism ensued when neither the film director, Greta Gerwig, nor protagonist, Margot Robbie, received a nomination.

In the same statement, Gosling also shared his joy for his costar America Ferrera’s Best Supporting Actress nomination
