‘Hamilton’ is Heading to Theaters: Here’s Where to Buy Tickets

Hamilton is heading to the big screen. In honor of the beloved Broadway musical’s 10th anniversary, fans will be able to catch it in theaters next month.
Hamilton first premiered on Broadway on Aug. 6, 2015. The musical about Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers of the U.S. was written and created by Nuyorican multi-hyphenate Lin-Manuel Miranda. In 2020, a professionally shot version of Hamilton was released on Disney+.
Now as part of the show’s 10th anniversary, Miranda revealed a theatrical release date for the Disney+ movie on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“I have an announcement!” he said. “So, tomorrow is the 10-year anniversary of ‘Hamilton,’ and we’ve been celebrating all year, but we have one more way to celebrate. We filmed most of the original cast performing in ‘Hamilton’ in 2016, and we always wanted to release it theatrically, but then the pandemic hit, and so we decided to release it on streaming so that everyone could see it at home whenever they wanted. But, September 5, you will be able to see ‘Hamilton’ in movie theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.”

Most movie theaters and ticket websites are offering pre-sale opportunities to catch Hamilton on the big screen, including AMC, Cinemark, and Regal. According to Manuel, the movie will also be playing in theaters in Puerto Rico. Hamilton will start playing in theaters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico on September 5.
There’s also an invite-only performance of Hamilton taking place tonight at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. The 10th anniversary show is expected to raise over $3 million dollars for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition, which supports 14 nonprofit organizations like the Hispanic Federation and National Immigration Law Center.
