J Balvin Making His Anime Voice Acting Debut — Here’s What We Know

Crunchyroll
The next frontier for J Balvin: the world of anime. This morning (February 5), the Colombian superstar revealed he will voice a key character in season two of the Crunchyroll series Solo Leveling.
Throughout his career, J Balvin has become known for being one of the most colorful characters in reggaeton. In one of his memorable past looks, he sported a rainbow-colored head of hair. J Balvin is also a long-time anime fan. In 2019, he collaborated with Japanese hip-hop trio M-Flo on the title track for Human Lost. Now he is joining the universe of Solo Leveling, which is based on a South Korean web novel.

“I’m beyond thrilled to join the cast of Solo Leveling!” J Balvin shared in a statement. “This series has such a passionate fanbase and getting the chance to be part of the anime world, after being a fan for such a long time, is an absolute honor. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working on!”
The second season of the anime is called Solo Leveling: Arise From the Shadow. The series is about Sung Jinwoo, who was seen as the world’s weakest hunter, coming back stronger than before through a program called System. J Balvin will voice an upcoming main character in both the English and Spanish dub later this season. Solo Leveling: Arise From the Shadow began airing on January 4th and you can catch up on all the action so far on Crunchyroll.com.

Back in August, J Balvin returned to music with his latest album Rayo. On March 20, he will kick off the U.S leg of his 2025 Back to the Rayo Tour in Atlanta, GA. Later this year, J Balvin’s frequent collaborator and fellow Colombian artist Feid should be appearing in an anime of his own. Feid previously teased a project that he made in Japan in his “Sorry 4 That Much” music video.
