When Jennifer Lopez married Ben Affleck in Las Vegas this past weekend, she not only broke the internet, but JLo indirectly challenged her fans to do a little online sleuthing. All the talk was regarding a comment she made about one of the two wedding dresses she wore on her special day.
In a video posted on Instagram, Lopez talked about one of the dresses, which Page Six described as “a sleeveless white Alexander McQueen gown in textured floral jacquard” with “a jewel neckline, fitted bodice and gathered full skirt.”
“I’ve had this dress for so many years, and I’ve just been saving it, saving it, saving it, and now I’m wearing it on my wedding day,” she said.
In her newsletter to fans, Lopez commented that the McQueen gown was “a dress from an old movie,” which prompted many fans online to attempt to find out which movie she was referencing.
According to Cinema Blend, “it was easy to rule out” the dresses Lopez wore in the films Marry Me, Maid in Manhattan, and The Wedding Planner. The dress also didn’t match the one she is wearing on the movie poster for Jersey Girl, which also starred Affleck.
Fans are more than determined to figure this mystery out, with one Twitter user writing, “JLO SAID SHE USED A DRESS FROM AN OLD MOVIE BUT WHICH MOVIE?!” Another added, “Someone do the work for me.”
Jersey Girl, however, might be the correct answer based on an interview director Kevin Smith gave back in 2004 where he said a wedding scene between Lopez and Affleck’s characters was cut from the final movie. Apparently, Smith was torn about including the scene since the duo had already broken up in real life.
So, is the McQueen dress, in fact, the bridal gown from a scene in the movie Jersey Girl that got left on the cutting room floor? Maybe. We also must recognize that Lopez said, “a dress from an old movie” and not “a dress from one of MY old movies.” Until we get confirmation from Lopez, it’ll stay a wedding mystery.
