It’s been two years since Mexican-Irish showrunner Natalie Chaidez took over as showrunner on USA’s successful Queen of the South, and the series hasn’t lost any momentum since debuting back in 2016. Keeping with its history of summer releases, season four is set to arrive in just a few weeks with a new pair of showrunners (Dailyn Rodriguez and Ben Lobato) at the helm, and the first trailer has dropped. (Unfortunately there isn’t any Andrés Cantor recap this go-round.)

The trailer sets the tone that’s dominated Queen of the South since its inception, with its in-your-face hip-hop soundtrack coupled with rapid-fire images of drugs and violence. With this season set in New Orleans all bets are off for Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) and her crew. As she’s told, New Orleans has their “own way” of doing things and that apparently includes the stereotypical body dump in a swamp and plenty of alligators to go round. With a tagline of “get ready to ride or die” it’s obvious Teresa has more enemies to get rid of this go-round, despite her goal to do that same thing in season three. Interestingly, we aren’t given any glimpses of longtime antagonist Camila Vargas (played by Veronica Falcon). Is she going to be complicating things for Teresa in the Big Easy?

This is certainly a teaser trailer, clocking in at just forty seconds, so it’s really more about upping anticipation for regular fans than getting new ones. All the promos for this show have emphasized a high octane, female-driven series, and considering how male dominated the USA Network normally is it’s great that Queen of the South has managed to hold on for so long. There’s no doubt fans who have been ride or die for Teresa will be prepped for another season of chaos and action.

Queen of the South season 4 premieres June 6, 2019, on USA Network.
