Bad Bunny has landed his first leading role in a movie. The Puerto Rican superstar is set to star in the upcoming film Porto Rico with longtime collaborator Residente.

Fellow Puerto Rican artist Residente is set to make his feature film directorial debut with Porto Rico. Back in 2023, Residente revealed that he was writing Porto Rico with Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) writer Alexander Dinelaris. The film has been described as a “love letter” to his native island.

Porto Rico will be based on the life story of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Román, who was also known as Águila Blanca. There’s no word yet on the role that Bad Bunny will play in the film.

Bad Bunny will star in Porto Rico alongside Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. The film will be executive produced by Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu

Bad Bunny is no stranger to film as his previous credits include F9, Bullet Train, and Cassandro

Just last year, he also appeared in Happy Gilmore 2 and Caught Stealing. Porto Rico will mark the first time that he’s getting top billing in a movie. Residente has also previously directed music videos and a documentary, so this will be his first time in his director’s chair for a movie.

That’s all the details being offered on Porto Rico for now. This big news for Bad Bunny comes on the heels of his historic Super Bowl halftime show on February 9. Earlier this month, he also made history at the 2026 Grammy Awards with his Album of the Year win for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.
