This Mexican Pop Star Will Voice Elphaba in Spanish Dub of ‘Wicked: For Good’

Universal Pictures
Danna is stepping back into the character of Elphaba. The trailer was released for Wicked: For Good with the Mexican pop star and Ceci de la Cueva returning to voice the leads in the Latin American version of the film.
When the first Wicked movie was released last November, Danna and de la Cueva voiced Elphaba and Glinda respectively in the Spanish-language dub. The moment was full-circle for both Mexican stars.
In 2013, Danna, who is known for her music and acting career, shifted gears when she played Elphaba in Mexico City production of Wicked. De la Cueva was a part of the same cast and she played Glinda. In the Latin American version of the Jon M. Chu film, both women also sang the iconic songs from the musical in Spanish like “Defying Gravity.”
A video was released of Danna and de la Cueva reacting to the Latin American version of the trailer. Both women get excited at the sight of the yellow brick road and lean on each other like Elphaba and Glinda do in the trailer as they watch the trailer. You can hear de la Cueva singing the song “For Good” in the trailer. Danna’s version of “No Good Deed” is also teased.

Wicked: For Good will follow the story of Elphaba, who is played by Cynthia Erivo, being villainized by the people of Oz as the “Wicked Witch of the West.” Glinda, who is played by Ariana Grande, supports Elphaba through the witch hunt.
Last year, the TheaterEars app made it possible to listen to the Spanish-language dub in the U.S., so hopefully that will be an option for the sequel.
Wicked: For Good opens in theaters worldwide on November 21.
