WATCH: Diego Luna and Tonatiuh Star in ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’ Official Trailer

Sundance Institute
The first official trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman is finally here. The trailer was released this morning (June 5) for the movie musical, which stars Tonatiuh, Diego Luna, and Jennifer Lopez.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Argentine author Manuel Puig. In 1983, he adapted the book into a stage play with Allan Baker, who translated the story into English. A decade later, John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Manuel Puig adapted the play into a musical that had a successful run on Broadway.
It was first adapted into an Oscar-winning film in 1985, which starred William Hurt, Raul Julia, and Sônia Braga. Now Bill Condon is bringing it back to the big screen with Tonatiuh, Luna, and Lopez.
Condon’s movie musical adaptation first premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. The film stars Mexican actor Luna as Valentín Arregui, who is a political prisoner during Argentina’s Dirty War in 1981. He shares his cell with Luis Molina, who is played by openly queer Mexican-American actor Tonatiuh. Molina is a window dresser that was convicted of public indecency.

While bonding with Arregui in prison, Molina imagines himself in a Hollywood musical that stars Ingrid Luna, who is played by Lopez. In the trailer, the Nuyorican pop star can be seen performing the songs “Prologue” and “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”
Kiss of the Spider Woman will open in theaters in the U.S. on October 10. The trailer comes on the heels of Luna recently wrapping the Disney+ series Andor, which aired its final episode on May 13.
