Saturday Night Live featured player and comedian Marcello Hernández brought the house down when he made his Tonight Show stand-up debut on Thursday (March 7).

Before Hernández took the stage, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon revealed that they tried to book Hernández before he was cast on SNL in 2022, but that the timing wasn’t right. Fallon said his SNL casting “just happened too fast.”

Hernández, who was dressed in a black and white tuxedo, then quipped: “It’s obviously a dream of mine to do stand-up on this show – and I got SNL which is a great consolation prize, [SNL creator] Lorne [Michaels], I’m very grateful.”

Fallon then invited Hernández to take the stage and perform a quick stand-up set, an opportunity Hernández happily accepted (although we’re sure all of this was pre-planned). Fallon asked Hernández to go behind the curtain, so he could formally introduce him.

Hernández began his set by telling the audience about his immigrant parents and how both of them speak English, “but different levels of English.” He credited his mother for having more of a grasp of the English language than his father and for always asking him “the most interesting questions.”

One of these questions was, “What is the difference between a butt dial and a booty call?”

Hernández also explained how “really American people” always want to tell him “how many years of Spanish they took.” He joked that usually the interaction usually ends with them pronouncing words like “Lunes” and “Sabado” and maybe singing a little “Suavemente.”

Aside from SNL, Marcello Hernández goes on stand-up tours across the U.S. If you want to see where he’s performing next, head over to Marcello.live.
