The first trailer for Netflix’s 6-episode limited series Keep Breathing dropped on Thursday (June 30), and actress Melissa Barrera (Scream) looks ready for the challenges that the unforgiving wilderness will bring.

In the series, Melissa Barrera plays Liv Rivera, a New York lawyer who finds herself alone when her private plane crashes in the remote Canadian frontier. Last week, Netflix gave audiences a first look at some photos from the production, including one where Barrera is seen inside the crashed plane, panicking as it fills up with water.

“Trailer is here!” Barrera posted on Instagram. “This crazy journey begins July 28. No matter what, just KEEP BREATHING.”

The Keep Breathing trailer begins with Liv sitting inside an airplane and having a nightmare. A woman in a red dress walks down a dim hallway and says, “It’s OK. It’s not your fault,” as Liv gently strokes the cheek of a little girl lying in bed.

The scene quickly cuts to Liv’s plane crashing through the trees and into a lake. There is someone else who has survived the accident with her, but he doesn’t seem to be very helpful. “No one’s coming,” he says. “No one knows we’re here. You’re on your own.”

The trailer continues with Liv trying to find a place in the wilderness where her cell phone works and attempting to start a fire. A pile of money on the ground suggests that Liv has found herself in the middle of a crime. If that’s not stressful enough, at one point in the trailer, Liv falls into a bottomless pit and becomes even more stranded than before.

Flashbacks of Liv’s life before the crash come in and out of the frame, and it’s evident that there is the emotional trauma that Liv must also confront. Here’s to hoping Liv can survive not only the natural elements bearing down around her but also the darkest corners of her own mind.

Keep Breathing premieres on Netflix on July 28, 2022.
