Frida, the Rescue Dog Who Rose to Fame After Mexico Earthquake, Retires

When Mexico was hit with back-to-back earthquakes in September 2017, Frida the rescue dog became a symbol of hope. The Marina labrador – who wore protective goggles and specialized blue booties as her official uniform as a perrita rescatista – received many honors after her heroic work, including the Pagés Llergo prize and a statue in her honor. Now, a few years after she became an international sensation, Frida is hanging up her booties and googles. The good doggo retired on Monday and received a dog toy.

In the last few years, Frida has helped on rescue missions in Haiti, Guatemala, and Ecuador. Now, at the end of her nine-year-old career, people are paying homage to her on social media. Check out a few reactions below.
