The 73rd edition of the Miss Universe pageant kicked off on Thursday night (November 14) with the Miss Universe 2024 preliminaries. In this event, 130 contestants from around the world appear in a formal gown, swimwear, and their national costumes in hopes of advancing to the main stage as a semi-finalist on Saturday night (November 16). Judged by the pageant’s selection committee, only 30 contestants will advance to the final, bringing contestants one step closer to the coveted Miss Universe crown.
This year,19 contestants from Latin America are competing, and the national costumes that were displayed were nothing short of masterful. The costume segment is one of the most anticipated showcases in the Miss Universe Pageant program, highlighting the rich and cultural diversity of each nation through costume, construction, and message. Who can forget Miss Universe 2023 winner, Sheynnis Palacios’ poetic black bird ensemble that represented adversity and “light at the end of the path?”
During the preliminary program for 2024, the crowd roared for Mexico’s dazzling warrior ensemble, Argentina’s colorful explosion of feathers and wildlife, and Chile’s ode to the king of Saturday night, Don Francisco— with a massive Sábado Gigante wheel of fortune.
Winners of the national costume contest will be announced on Saturday (November 16) during the final event. Below are all of the final costume looks of the 19 Latinas competing for the title.
