Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to learn about the astrology of how we love? Whether you’re single, committed to a long-term partner, or dipping your toes back into dating, there is one placement in our birth chart (a snapshot of the sky at the moment of our birth that details every astrological placement) that will give you todos los detalles you need to know when it comes to romance: Venus.

Just like we associate the planet of Venus with sex, romance, and everything feminine, that’s also what it represents in astrology. “Venus rules our romantic relationships, lust, our desires, and what we find attractive,” Bri Luna, astrologer, founder of The HoodWitch, and author of Blood Sex Magic: Everyday Magic for the Modern Mystic, says to Remezcla. “It’s the celestial force that connects our emotional experiences to our creative expressions, making it essential for understanding the dynamics of love and connection.”

And just like every other placement in our birth chart, our Venus sign comes in one of the 12 Zodiac signs, each one with its own interpretation — both positive and negative. Luna helped me break down what each Venus sign wants in their life when it comes to love, romance, and pleasure — and how they show it!

1

Venus in Aries

What They Want: A thrill-seeking partner who can keep up with their fiery energy.

Aries is known as the child of the Zodiac with its bull-headed need for independence and intense bouts of passion and anger. They’d rather be dead than be boring and bored. And that’s reflected in their love life too. “Expect grand gestures and a whole lot of chasing! If you can’t handle the heat, get out of their love life. They want passion, not a pen pal,” Luna says.

2

Venus in Taurus

What They Want: Luxury, comfort, and a partner who knows their worth (and their worth in fine wine!)

Taurus is one of the signs that are ruled by Venus, so consider yourself lucky to have your Venus in this sensual sign. They’re all about the senses and luxury. That doesn’t mean they’re vain or need to have a rich partner by any means (although they wouldn’t say no to that either), it’s more about the experience of it all. “They’ll shower you with gifts but don’t even think about rushing them; they like to take their sweet time savoring every moment (and dessert),” Luna says.

3

Venus in Gemini

What They Want: A partner who can keep the conversation flowing and make them laugh.

Ruled by Mercury (the planet of communication), Geminis need someone that can match their energy — and freak! If there’s a sign that needs some good banter, it’s this chatty air sign. “They show their love with a flirty wink and a dash of sarcasm. They’ll keep you guessing and on your toes, but good luck,” Luna says.

4

Venus in Cancer

What They Want: Emotional security, and a partner who knows how to cater to their sensitive side.

Ruled by the sensitive and intuitive Moon, Cancers are as emotional and caring to their partners, as they are with everyone in their lives. They have a lot of love to give, but be wary of being on their bad side: they might forgive, but never forget. “They show their love by smothering you with affection… and maybe a little too much clinginess,” Luna says.

5

Venus in Leo

What They Want: To be adored and treated like royalty—because, let’s be real, they think they are!

Leos shine as bright as their ruling planet, the sun, and their love is just as dramatic, creative, and show-stopping. If there’s a ‘most likely to fall for the lovebombing’ award, Leo would take the cake… every time. In other words, they not-so-secretly want that grand romantic gesture. “If you’re not ready to shower them with compliments and admiration, don’t even bother—they’ll move on faster than you can say ‘king or queen,’” Luna says.

6

Venus in Virgo

What They Want: A partner who can appreciate their practical side, and doesn’t mind a little constructive criticism.

If you wish you had a partner that took care of everything that caused you stress for you, Virgo is definitely the sign to fall in love with. Virgos might also struggle in finding the “perfect partner,” and while there’s nothing wrong with having standards, some of what you’re asking for might be too much — so, we suggest some self-reflection. “ They’ll love you by fixing your life, but don’t take it personally if they point out your flaws. It’s just their way of saying ‘I care,’ Luna says.

7

Venus in Libra

What They Want: Harmony, beauty, and a partner who knows how to dress to impress.

The other sign ruled by Venus, while Taurus is comfort-first, Libra is all flirt all the time — most of the time without them even noticing. This air sign is effortlessly charming and endlessly graceful. They love being in relationships, and thrive when they’re around their favorite people. They’re the most likely to be the It Girl of any room they enter. “They’ll sweet-talk you into anything, but if you don’t match their aesthetic, good luck hanging on to their affections,” Luna says.

8

Venus in Scorpio

What They Want: An intense, passionate connection that dives deep into the emotional abyss.

Scorpios are intense intense — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! If you yearn for that possessive, obsessed-with-you type, then dating a Scorpio Venus is where it’s at. They’re anything but chill, and we love that. “They’ll love you hard, but one whiff of betrayal, and you’re OUT! no questions asked. Expect a rollercoaster of emotions and a love that’s anything but ordinary,” Luna says.

9

Venus in Sagittarius

What They Want: Freedom, adventure, and a partner who can keep up with their spontaneous spirit.

Do you know the stereotype that Sagittarius are non-commital, or at worst, scared of commitment? Well, we’re not saying they are… but we’re also not saying they aren’t. They want a light-hearted and chill vibe. “If you’re too clingy or serious, they’ll be out the door faster than you can say wanderlust. Give them space, and they’ll shower you with fun,” Luna says. They’re most likely to want a poly relationship, we’ll just leave it at that.

10

Venus in Capricorn

What They Want: Stability, commitment, and someone who can handle their ambitious nature.

Ruled by the transformative and boundary-filled Saturn, Capricorn is the exact opposite of Sagittarius when it comes to romance: They want the serious. They’re looking for a real life partner, to grow and transform with them. “They’ll provide for you, but don’t expect them to wear their heart on their sleeve. If you’re looking for romance, just know it’s more about building a future than candlelit dinners,” Luna says.

11

Venus in Aquarius

What They Want: Unconventional love and a partner who values independence as much as they do.

Aquarius wants the classic friends-to-lovers trope with their person. Even if they get into dating with the intention to, well, date, they still want the foundation of a friendship under the romance. They have to intellectually connect with their person too! If the both of you can nerd out over something together, the better in their book. “They want to be your friend first, so don’t expect them to follow the traditional dating script. If you’re not up for a wild ride, keep walking!” Luna says.

12

Venus in Pisces

What They Want: A dreamy, romantic connection that feels like a fairytale.

Ruled by the dreamy and spiritual Neptune, Pisces are all about going with the flow. If you’re a Pisces Venus, and you’re not sure if you’ve met your person? Follow your gut, your instincts, not your anxiety. They’re definitely most likely to have wild daydreams (or actual dreams) of a potential future life with their partner, and would definitely call themselves a hopeless romantic. “They’ll shower you with affection and creativity, but don’t be surprised if they retreat into their own world. Sometimes, the fantasy is just too good to leave behind,” Luna says.
