The day has finally come: notorious Latin trap artist Anuel AA will be released on July 17 after being incarcerated for 2 years and 3 months. The Puerto Rican rapper was arrested back in 2016 on gun charges, and will finally see the light of day after he relocated to a halfway house in May and temporarily returned to federal prison in early June.

But Anuel’s incarceration didn’t stop him from pursuing his music career. The artist better known as Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago just surprise-dropped a new album to celebrate his release from prison. Real Hasta La Muerte became available to stream on digital platforms at midnight on July 17, and it features verses from a handful of la isla del encanto’s heavyweights, including Ozuna, Wisin, Zion, and Ñengo Flow. According to a press release, the album was primarily produced by longtime collaborators Chris Jeday and Gaby Music, the former of which is behind 2017 favorite “Ahora Dice.” It’s also likely the reason Real Hasta La Muerte finds the emcee exploring more radio-friendly and pop-reggaeton territory, though the explicit lyrical content that transformed him into one of the leading figures of the thriving Latin trap movement is still present. According to Billboard, the album was “entirely conceived and recorded by Anuel as he served his sentence.”

There is still no information on the exact time the 25-year-old rapper will be released from prison, but Remezcla will update this post once more information becomes available.
