Becky G continues to make big career moves. Today (Feb. 28), the Mexican-American pop star revealed she will perform at the 2024 Oscars ceremony next month.
Last month, Becky G was emotional about her song “The Fire Inside” being nominated at the Academy Awards. In June 2023, she released the song as part of the soundtrack for the Flamin’ Hot movie. “The Fire Inside” is nominated for Best Original Song, which would be awarded to songwriter Diane Warren if it wins. Though Becky G isn’t nominated, her being the song’s performing artist will still give her major exposure at the ceremony when she sings it live.
Becky G announced the news of her 2024 Oscars performance in a sly post on Instagram. “SWIPE FOR A SURPRISE,” she wrote in the caption. The photo changes from a selfie in her car to the confirmation of her performance from the Academy Awards. Becky G will grace the Oscars stage for the first time to sing “The Fire Inside” live.
The Academy Awards also confirmed four more performances. The rest of the Best Original Song nominees will hit the stage, including Jon Batiste from American Symphony and Scott George and the Osage Singers, who recorded a song for the Killers of the Flower Moon soundtrack. There will also be a lot of Barbie representation, with Billie Eilish set to perform “What Was I Made For?” and Ryan Gosling confirmed to sing “I’m Just Ken” live with producer Mark Ronson.
The 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on Sunday, March 10. This year’s Latine nominees include Colman Domingo in the Best Actor category for the biopic Rustin and America Ferrera in the Best Supporting Actress category for Barbie. For his work as a producer of the movie Past Lives, David Hinojosa is nominated for Best Picture. Society of the Snow is also nominated for Best International Film.
