Demi Lovato is teasing the most surprising collaboration of her career yet. On Friday night (Aug. 2), the pop superstar joined Grupo Firme to perform their upcoming single “Chula” live.

Throughout her career, Lovato has always embraced her Latine roots in her music. She released Spanish versions of her hit songs “This Is Me,” “Skyscraper,” and “Tell Me You Love Me.” After Luis Fonsi broke records with “Despacito,” his follow-up single was “Échame La Culpa” featuring Lovato. Now, she is embracing her Mexican heritage with Grupo Firme.

The band is currently performing concerts across the U.S. on La Última Peda Tour. During the tour’s stop in Austin, TX, on Friday night, lead singer Eduin Caz brought out Lovato as a surprise guest. For the first time, the two acts performed a piece of the song “Chula” live. The song blends música mexicana with EDM. Lovato sang in English and Spanish about enjoying a night on the dance floor with the guys of Grupo Firme.

After a video of the “Chula” performance surfaced online, Lovato’s fans praised her collaboration with Grupo Firme. On X, one person wrote, “Grupo Firme collaborating with Demi Lovato (one of the biggest pop divas) is impressive and a great achievement.” Another person wrote, “Wait a minute… Demi Lovato and Grupo Firme made a song!!! Definitely not in my 2024 bingo card!!!”

Grupo Firme’s “Chula” song with Lovato will be released on Aug. 15. In an interview with Remezcla earlier this year, the guys in the group also teased that another collaboration is on the way with Gloria Trevi.

Last year, Lovato released her album Revamped, where she recorded pop-punk versions of her hits like “Sorry Not Sorry,” “Cool For the Summer,” “Confident,” and “La La Land.” The LP featured Slash from Guns N’ Roses, The Maine, and The Used’s Bert McCracken.
