To accompany her Tropicoqueta album, Karol G released the T. special called La Premiere last night (Dec. 10). The visual project includes many Easter eggs, including references to the ‘90s, iconic Latina vedettes, Marco Antonio Solís, Don Francisco, and more.
La Premiere first aired on TV in over 60 countries this past weekend. Karol G then released the nearly hour-long special to her YouTube channel last night. After bringing Cristina Saralegui out of retirement, the Colombian superstar enlisted former Sábado Gigante host Don Francisco to introduce La Premiere.
But there were plenty more examples of ‘90s nostalgia in La Premiere, with Karol G performing “Cuando Me Muera Te Olvido” with a VHS-like aesthetic, reminiscent of iconic TV shows like Siempre En Domingo and Sábado Sencional. For the first time, she also performs a Spanish version of the song “Papasito.” The vibrant video recalls the days of music channels when people sent messages that would appear onscreen.
With her Tropicoqueta LP paying homage to vedette culture, she brings out three Latina icons. In the showgirl-powered video for “Tropicoqueta,” Karol G is joined by Mexico’s Lyn May, Peru’s La Tigresa del Oriente, and Brazil’s Valeria Valensa. Legendary Mexican luchador Blue Demon Jr. also parties with them. Karol G further pays tribute to Mexico with her performance of “Ese Hombre Es Malo.” She dons a charro-inspired dress and evokes the Spanish singer loved for her música mexicana songs, Rocío Dúrcal.
After performing with Solís at the Latin Grammy Awards, he rejoins Karol G to reprise their hit song “Coleccionando Heridas.” She also performed “Dile Luna” with Eddy Lover and “FKN Movie” with Mariah Angeliq for the first time. Among the few songs from Tropicoqueta that didn’t get any love during La Premiere, Karol G’s fans noticed she didn’t include “Verano Rosa,” a duet with her boyfriend, Feid.
Karol G’s Tropicoqueta album is currently nominated for the 2026 Grammy Awards. For the first time, she will compete in the Best Latin Pop Album category against Rauw Alejandro, Alejandro Sanz, Natalia Lafourcade, and Andrés Cepeda.
