The Weeknd is a big fan of Karol G.

Earlier this week, Remezcla caught up with the Canadian star The Weeknd on the red carpet for his upcoming movie Hurry Up Tomorrow. He opened up about his favorite artists that sing in Spanish and why he wanted Jenna Ortega to star in his film.

Back in January, the Weeknd released his latest album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The following month, he unveiled the trailer for his movie of the same name, which also stars Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Remezcla was invited to the film’s premiere in New York where freelancer Brenda Barrientos chatted with The Weeknd.

The Weeknd is no stranger to recording music in Spanish. In 2020, he sang in Spanish with Maluma on a remix of “Hawái.” That same year, he joined forces with Rosalía on a remix of “Blinding Lights.” She later teamed up with him again for her single “La Fama.” When asked about Spanish-language artists that he’s listening to, the Weeknd named Rosalía and La Bichota.

“Rosalía is always in my rotation,” he said. “I love Rosalía. “I like Karol G, too, man. Karol G’s fire. Yeah, so that’s what I’m listening to.”

Maybe Karol G will be the next Spanish-language artist that The Weeknd collaborates with. He also talked about how Ortega first came on his radar and why wanted her to star in Hurry Up Tomorrow

“On this film X, she was a magnet right away,” The Weeknd said. “She stuck out. I was like, ‘This actress is special.’ I went to the theater and I saw Scream, and at that moment, I was like, ‘This girl is gonna be a star.’ I always knew that I wanted to work with her in some capacity. She’s so smart. So talented. Has incredible ideas and she’s down to get in the fire and do some big swings and she lands all of them.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow opens in theaters tomorrow, May 16. Over on Remezcla’s TikTok account, Rauw Alejandro also shared his thoughts on Ortega starring in the movie.
