Update 5/29: The 2024 Woman of the Year recipient at the upcoming Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards was revealed. Karol G will be honored with that award for her “extraordinary milestones and unparalleled impact on the music industry.” Back in March, the Colombian superstar was also honored as the Woman of the Year at the Billboard Women in Music Awards.

Update 5/23: Kali Uchis and Camila Cabello will also be honored at 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards next month.

Kali Uchis will receive the Rising Star award thanks to her success that’s not limited to one language. After making her mark in English, she stormed the Latine music scene with her Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) in 2020. In her recent albums, she continues to blend both her Colombian and U.S. roots seamlessly.

Cabello will be honored with the Global Impact award. The Cuban-American pop star will receive this award thanks to her humanitarian efforts, which includes her work with groups like Healing Justice Project, Equality Florida, and Lambda Legal.

The 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards will return next month. Today (May 16), the honorees for this year’s ceremony were revealed, including the icons Gloria Estefan, Ana Bárbara, Ángela Aguilar, and Kany García.

Following the success of the Billboard Women in Music awards, Latina artists received their own show last year with the Billboard Latin Women in Music event. Colombian pop icon Shakira was honored with the first-ever Woman of the Year award. Other honorees included Ana Gabriel, who received the Living Legend Award, Emilia, Goyo, Thalia, Evaluna Montaner, and Maria Becerra.

The first round of honorees for the second Billboard Women in Music Awards were announced. Gloria Estefan, who helped Latine music go global as a solo artist and a part of Miami Sound Machine, will receive the Legend Award. She is known for her classics like “Conga” and the Mi Tierra album, which paid homage to the music of Cuba. Mexican icon Ana Bárbara, known as the queen of grupera music, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. She became a viral sensation on TikTok in recent years after people on the app latched onto her classic “Bandido.”

“I’m happy that new generations are getting to know this work by Ana Bárbara that I also co-wrote,” Bárbara told Remezcla back in 2022. “I believe ‘Bandido’ is a song that marked an era almost 20 years ago that’s now resurging thanks to these new platforms. I believe it’s something very beautiful for me and my fans.”

Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany García, who is openly lesbian, will receive the Spirit of Change Award. Earlier this year, she dropped an LGBTQ+ anthem with “En Esta Boca” featuring Young Miko. Ángela Aguilar, who is carrying on her father’s, Pepe Aguilar, legacy, will be honored with the Musical Dynasty Award.

More honorees will be announced soon. The 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards will air on Sunday, June 9, on Telemundo.
