The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards took place last night (Nov. 10) with many Latine winners. In addition to performing at the event, Peso Pluma made history with his win. Other artists like Yeri Mua and Manuel Turizo also won their very first MTV EMA moon person.

The MTV Europe Music Awards took place at the Co-op Live in Manchester, U.K. Peso Pluma was present to accept the award for Best Latin, which included competition from Anitta, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and Shakira. He made history as the first Mexican artist to win in this category. To accept his award, he brought his producer Jesus “Parka” Ivan Leal Reyes to the podium. Last year, Peso Pluma won his first MTV EMA for Best New Artist.

Peso Pluma also proudly represented Mexico during his performance. He sang the track “Hollywood” from his Éxodo album live with special guest Estevan Plazola. The backdrop on stage glowed with the colors of the Mexican flag. That marked the first time a corrido was performed at the MTV EMAs.

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards is the only major award show that recognizes Latine artists according to region. Yeri Mua made history as the first reggaeton mexa artist to win in the Best Latin America North Act category. “I can’t believe that I won,” she said in a video on Instagram. “Thank you so much to all my fans. This award is for you guys. Thank you for supporting reggaeton mexa.”

Turizo, who will release his next album 201 on Nov. 22, won his first EMA for Best Latin America Central Act. Another first-time winner was Dillom in the Best Latin America South Act category. Young Miko won Best Caribbean Act category for a second year in a row, and drag pop star Pabllo Vittar won Best Brazilian Act for the third time in her career. The Warning also represented Mexico at the awards with their performance of “Automatic Sun.”
