The rising Mexican folk singer recently went viral for posting his song “sueña lindo, corazón” as the soundtrack to a video of his routine job as a street sweeper in Mexico City. Now, social media users are using a similar formula to showcase their talents, thanking him for opening doors for emerging artists. Pop star Danna also shared her sentiments about the viral song.
On Jan. 27, Martínez’s popularity soared after posting a TikTok video with the caption, “Life asks for a lot and I’m just a street sweeper who wants you to listen to his music.” The TikTok video shows the artist in his work uniform riding on the back of the city vehicle, with his song “sueña lindo, corazón” as the soundtrack. Thanks to social media, the emerging artist garnered a plethora of new followers, catapulting his popularity to a new level.
Now Internet users are following in his footsteps and posting themselves working on their day jobs while manifesting their dreams. TikTok user manniehh wrote: “Someone tell Macario Martínez here is a mechanic who wants to do a Ft. with him!!!!” The creator showcased his song, “Tatú.”
Another TikTok user, guty.escobar, posted a video playing the accordion with the words: “I understand you, Macario. Life asks for a lot and I’m just an accordion player who wants you to listen to his cumbias.”
Other Internet users are thanking him for opening doors for emerging artists who also have conventional jobs. TikTok user dimeloreto posted a video of himself singing an original song with the text: “Thanks to a street sweeper who makes spectacular music, now we waiters, dishwashers, fishermen, students, construction workers, street artists, the common people who strive to make music for the love of art, can all be seen.”
Other TikTok creators are using his song to manifest their non-music dreams, such as dalila__45, who wants to sell art for a living.
Moreover, the song has reached pop stars like Danna, who is also feeling moved by the artist’s dream. “Listening to this song moved a lot of things in me. How beautiful it is to dream, to keep dreaming… and that your dream gives you the strength to achieve whatever you dream of, and also to help others to fulfill their dreams,” she wrote. “To see everything that is happening with Macario, gives me hope in my heart of how beautiful human beings there are, that we can be, that in so much chaos there is love, and that music moves everything.”
Thanks to his overnight popularity, Martínez was recently added to play at the emblematic Tecate Pa’l Norte 2025. The festival is taking place from Apr. 4 to 6 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, in Mexico.
