Kali Uchis Drops ‘Sincerely: P.S.’ With d4vd’s Co-Written Song Still In It

Kali Uchis just dropped Sincerely: P.S., the deluxe edition of the Sincerely EP (Oct. 2). Along with “Cry about it!” featuring Ravyn Lenae, it includes four other new tracks. However, this new album also includes the song co-written by controversial artist d4vd.
Last month, d4vd got caught up in the investigation of the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The remains of the 15-year-old girl were found inside a car registered to d4vd. While the investigation is ongoing, he is reportedly cooperating with the LAPD. Kali previously collaborated with d4vd, and when asked by a fan about her connection to him, she responded, “Not my friend i did a song with him which is currently in the process of being taken down given todays disturbing news.”
Kali collaborated with d4vd twice this past year. She featured on his song “Crashing,” and he’s listed as a co-writer on the song “It’s Just Us” off the Sincerely, album under his real name David Anthony Burke. The song started out as a demo by d4vd, called “Forever in Love” (or sometimes referred to as “It’s Just You”).
Following the news tied to d4vd, Kali announced she’d be taking down “Crashing” from streaming platforms. And she delivered on that promise. However, the controversial artist still has a presence on Sincerely: P.S. in the form of a co-write.
During a Spotify listening party for Sincerely, Kali Uchis revealed that she heard the demo while in a session with d4vd for his album. She took the demo to Houston and completely re-wrote the verses. The final product of “It’s Just Us” includes a few words of the chorus that d4vd originally wrote. Before d4vd started getting investigated, Kali also performed the song on The Sincerely, Tour.
This morning, Kali released Sincerely: P.S. and, surprisingly, “It’s Just Us” is still a part of the album. Though the songstress re-wrote a majority of the song, d4vd can presumably profit from it as a co-writer. Maybe it was an oversight on her team’s part, but if she wants to completely cut ties with d4vd, “It’s Just Us” needs to be taken down along with “Crashing,” especially given that it’s on her own album.
