Karol G made a triumphant return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage on Wednesday night (Sept. 11). She took the stage to proudly represent Latinidad with a vibrant performance of “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido.”
Karol G brought the beach vibes and her Verano Rosa Bar to life, surrounded by flags from various Latin American countries, including Colombia’s flag tucked in her back pocket. While entering the crowd, she moved to the merengue-infused hit with Cabello, Swift, and Post Malone. “¡Dale!” she shouted to Swift, who appeared to have a blast, getting up from her seat to dance.
On the red carpet, Karol G appeared to channel the era of her debut album, 2017’s Unstoppable. She donned a dress covered in flames, her black roots and silver blond hair— reminiscent of her look on that album cover.
This year, Karol G was nominated for Best Latin for her Selena-inspired single “Mi Ex Tenía Razón.”
Karol G made her MTV VMAs debut last year, performing a medley of the songs “Oki Doki” and “Tá OK.” During that debut, she also won the first VMA of her career, sharing the Best Collaboration award with Colombian pop icon Shakira for “TQG.” More recently, in July, Karol G wrapped up her Mañana Será Bonito era with her tour’s finale in Madrid, and she’s continued to dominate global charts with “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” which currently sits at No. 9 on Spotify’s Top Global 50.
Up next, Karol G is set to perform at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil on Sept. 20.
