An iconic Mexican group will be honored at the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Awards. Today (Aug. 8), the Hispanic Heritage Foundation announced that Los Ángeles Azules will be awarded and will perform at the ceremony next month.

Created by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), the Hispanic Heritage Awards puts a spotlight on Latine talents in all entertainment fields. Previous award recipients include Omar Apollo, Selena Gomez, Karol G, Bad Bunny, Becky G, and Daddy Yankee. The Hispanic Heritage Foundation revealed the four honorees for its upcoming 37th anniversary.

Los Ángeles Azules will be honored with the Arts Award for their incredible trajectory in the música mexicana scene. For many decades, the group has proudly represented cumbia music around the world and through collaborations with artists like Natalia Lafourcade and Ximena Sariñana. Their hits “Nunca Es Suficiente” and “Mis Sentimientos” have over a billion views each on YouTube. In addition to receiving the Arts Award, Los Ángeles Azules will also perform at the event.

“Los Ángeles Azules have literally moved audiences around the world through their music and messages for decades,” Antonio Tijerino, the HHF president and CEO, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to honor this remarkable group of musical giants with our Arts Award and we look forward to sharing our collective cultural pride, achievement and vision, along with the other honorees, at the Kennedy Center and on PBS with all of America and beyond during Hispanic Heritage Month.”

The 2024 Hispanic Heritage Awards will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Opera House on Sept. 5. The ceremony will air on PBS, online, and on the PBS video app on Sept. 27. Other honorees include NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera, and Beautyblender creator Rea Ann Silva. Late baseball legend Roberto Clemente will also be honored with a posthumous award.
