There’s a new Peso Pluma album on the way! Today (March 11), the Mexican superstar revealed what to expect from his next LP Éxodo

In a cover story for Rolling Stone, he announced that his next album will be named Éxodo. He also revealed that the LP will tackle the recent backlash in his career. “But I think this year, they’re going to know a darker side,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of things about why we do what we do, and why we sing what we do, why people pit us [música mexicana artists] against each other, why media always look for bad things, why people focus more on the negatives than the positives.”

During the interview, Peso Pluma declined to discuss his breakup with Nicki Nicole. In the days following Nicole speaking out about their split, he canceled his performance at Viña del Mar and the rest of his Latin American tour. While there were rumors that he checked into a rehab facility, Peso Pluma actually committed himself to the recording studio.

“Well, the last few weeks have been really crazy,” he said. “People are always going to have something to say about what I’m doing and creating their own narrative. But the reality is, all these days, I’ve been in the studio working on Éxodo.”

On Éxodo, which is due out this summer, he will explore multiple genres. “There’s going to be a lot of flavors, not only of regional Mexican music,” he said. The album is also named after his Éxodo Tour, which kicks off on May 26 at the Sueños Festival in Chicago.

Peso Pluma became a global star last year with his breakthrough album, Génesis. He put música mexicana into the mainstream with hits like “Rosa Pastel” with Jasiel Nuñez and “Lady Gaga” featuring Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H. Last month, Peso Pluma became the first corridos tumbados artist to win the Best Música Mexicana Album Grammy Award for Génesis
