Bachata recording artist Prince Royce made his way to National Public Radio’s (NPR) Tiny Desk (Home) Concert in honor of Our Heritage Month. The concert comes a day after singer and songwriter Sech performed for the NPR series.
During the recorded concert, Royce sang “Corazón Sin Cara” from his 2010 debut solo album, Prince Royce. The song hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Tropical Songs chart and No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Latin Songs chart a year later.
“I’m so happy to be here with the guys, with the fellas, with the band, with my fans,” Royce said after finishing the first song. “Just representing mi cultura, representing bachata, representing Dominican Republic, which just holds so much meaning to me, my music, and my family.”
Born Geoffrey Royce Rojas, the Dominican singer has released six albums in the last decade. The most recent was 2020’s Alter Ego, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Album Chart. It includes collaborations with Marc Anthony, Wisin & Yandel, and Maluma.
Along with “Corazón Sin Cara” for the Tiny Desk (Home) Concert, Royce performed “Carita de Inocente” from Alter Ego and Lao’ a Lao’ from his upcoming album set to be released next year. The concert took place in a barbershop, which Royce said reminded him of home in The Bronx.
“I’m liking this vibe,” he said. “The barbershop is where you would hang out with your friends. You would listen to the music that the streets were listening to. All of that is a part of me.”
Earlier this year, Royce collaborated with Natti Natasha for the song “Antes Que Salga El Sol.” Royce will be featured on the new Facebook Watch series 12 Hours With… on October 12.
