Bad Bunny’s Grammy winning streak came to an end—at the hands of a close friend. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Residente took home the Best Música Urbana Album award, beating out competition from Young Miko, Feid, and Bad Bunny himself.

Bad Bunny won his first “Gringo” Grammy award in 2021 for YHLQMDLG. Since then, the Puerto Rican superstar has been on a hot streak at the Grammys with his following albums, El Último Tour Del Mundo and Un Verano Sin Ti, sweeping in the Best Música Urbana categories. At this year’s Grammy Awards, Bad Bunny’s Latine trap album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana faced competition from Feid’s Ferxxocalipsis, Young Miko’s att., J Balvin’s Rayo, and Residente’s comeback album.

Las Letras Ya No Importan marked Residente’s second solo album following his 2017 self-titled LP. The now Grammy-winning project includes collaborations with Penélope Cruz, Busta Rhymes, Ricky Martin, Jessie Reyez, Rauw Alejandro, Christian Nodal, and other stars. In one of the most poignant songs on the LP, Residente showed his support for Palestine in “Bajo los Escombros” featuring local singer Amal Murkus.

Though some of Bad Bunny’s fans are unhappy with his loss, given his long-time friendship with Residente, we’re sure they’re happy for one another. This moment marks Residente’s fifth Grammy win in his career overall, including his past work with Calle 13.
