It seems that another legendary Mexican actress was supposed to appear in Karol G’s TROPICOQUETA album teaser. However, she turned down the opportunity. Victoria Ruffo recently opened up about the reasons she decided not to appear in the star-studded video.

A few days before the release of TROPICOQUETA on June 20, Karol G teased the album with a telenovela-inspired teaser. The Colombian superstar brought together the likes of small-screen icons like RBD’s Anahí, Ninel Conde, Gabriela Spanic, Azela Robinson, and Itatí Cantoral. Ruffo, known for starring in classics like Simplemente María, La Fiera, and La Madrastra, revealed that she was asked to appear in the teaser as well.

“Karol G’s sister called me,” she said. “I told them no.”

Ruffo explained why she turned down Karol G’s opportunity. According to the actress, she was given very short notice about the TROPICOQUETA teaser and already had prior commitments. “They called me a day or two in advance, and well, I have theater work to do, and I can’t just say, ‘Oh, see you there,’ overnight, right? So it was really sad that I couldn’t participate,” Ruffo added.

The actress also admitted that she wasn’t familiar with Karol G until her daughter, Vicky, let her know about the big opportunity she had turned down. “I feel very sad and ashamed because her sister called me twice about being able to participate,” Ruffo said. “Well, I didn’t even know who Karol G was, and my daughter said to me: ‘Mom, how dare you? It’s Karol G!’ And I said: ‘Come on, sing me a Karol G song then.'”
Now that Ruffo has gone public about wanting to work with Karol G after all, hopefully, there’s another chance for her to do so. Karol G’s TROPICOQUETA debuted at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart this week.
