After working with artists like Madonna and Sexyy Red, Tokischa appears to be collaborating with A$AP Rocky next. On Saturday night (Aug. 17), the Dominican superstar was spotted filming a music video in New York City with the U.S. rapper.
Not only has Tokischa become one of the Dominican Republic’s biggest pop stars, but she has also helped globalize dembow. Madonna tapped into the genre when she teamed up with Tokischa for the “Hung Up” remix. Spanish singer Rosalía also embraced dembow for the first time on “Linda” with Tokischa. In the hip-hop space, Sexy Redd joined forces with Tokischa for “Daddy,” which fused dembow with house music. Now, A$AP Rocky appears to be jumping on the dembow wave.
Tokischa and A$AP Rocky had Washington Heights in a frenzy while filming a music video. In one scene, A$AP Rocky is rapping from the top of a traffic light while Tokischa is twerking below him. She pulls out the flag of the Dominican Republic and waves it proudly as the onlookers cheer. In another scene, the two artists perform their song in front of a bodega. From what people recorded from the video shoot, Tokischa and A$AP Rocky’s collaboration sounds like a dembow banger in the making.
Tokischa and A$AP Rocky’s fans are showing their excitement online for the upcoming collaboration. On X, one person wrote, “all the videos of tokischa and asap rocky shooting that music video are making me soooo happy i need that song NOW.” Another person added, “Can’t wait to see the final outcome of this music video with ASAP Rocky && Tokischa.”
Back in May, Tokischa launched her record label SOL, where she will release her music and support new talent. A few days later, she dropped a single also called “SOL.” In June, she performed concerts across the U.S. in support of the LGBTQ+ community with her Nací Perra Pride Tour.
