Becky G opened up about her experience of working with Peso Pluma. In a recent interview, the Mexican-American pop star talked about the story behind their collaboration “Chanel.”

Last month, Becky G dabbled in corridos tumbados for the first time with her latest single, “Chanel.” She was joined by one of the genre’s leading artists, Peso Pluma. When he was a special guest during Becky G’s Coachella set, the two artists seemed to share great chemistry while performing together. However, Becky G revealed that at one point, the vibes seemed off with Peso Pluma.

At the Coachella music festival, Becky G did an interview with the Agushto Papa Podcast. She talked about when she first hit the studio with Peso Pluma to write “Chanel.” According to Becky G, she misinterpreted the vibes in the room when he didn’t take off his bélico mask during the session.

“I did think maybe he’s just not vibing,” Becky said. “Maybe he’s having a day. Obviously, being an artist, it gets exhausting, and I was trying to be mindful of that. I remember leaving and being like, ‘Damn, man, I don’t think he was vibing, and I feel so bummed.”

After talking with Mexican hit-maker Edgar Barrera, who produced the track, Becky G learned that the misunderstanding of the vibes was mutual. Peso Pluma also felt bad for thinking he didn’t hit it off with her in the studio.

“[Edgar] was like, ‘[Peso Pluma] was so nervous,’” Becky recounted. “‘He was super nervous. You left, and he was like, I fucked it up, guey.’ It was so funny. I was like, ‘Dude, that’s how I felt when I left.’”

The vibes seemed to have gotten better since the song was released. Becky G and Peso Pluma also appeared to connect onstage well during their performance of “Chanel” at the Latin American Music Awards last month. The collaboration is the first single from Becky G’s upcoming regional Mexican music album.
