Belinda has fully entered her “Reputa…ción” era with her new single “La Mala.” In the cinematic music video released today (Aug. 23), the Spanish-Mexican pop star opens up about her dating reputation while hitting back at her haters.

“La Mala” is a part of the trilogy of Belinda’s singles this year. She returned to the music scene in January with “Cactus” and later collaborated with Natanael Cano on “300 Noches.” Earlier this month, Belinda released a video teaser for her song “La Mala.” In the preview, she talked about what it meant to her. “People are thinking I have a hole [where my heart should be] and that I’m mala,” she said. “What they’ve said is that I’m savage, I’m a bad person, and a bad woman. Watch out! I say, ‘What the f**k are you saying, brother?’ You don’t even know me.”

Belinda mixes trap music with elements of música mexicana in “La Mala.” Among her three singles this year, the lyrics in this one are the most telling and hard-hitting. She talks about how her name continues to be dragged in the press for her past relationships. Belinda and Christian Nodal broke up in 2022, yet she was recently followed in an airport for a comment about his new relationship with Ángela Aguilar. In Spanish, she sings, “If they talk good about me or bad about me, it’s another normal day / I’m used to them wanting to f**k around with me / I don’t let them try it and they’ll get screwed.”

In the music video for “La Mala,” Belinda appears to take on the Biblical character of Mary Magdalene as people throw stones at her. She is later revealed to be a vampire who has sucked the life out of plenty of men. A past version of herself is shown buried in the ground while her “Beli-Belica” persona blows a kiss goodbye. Throughout the video, she cleverly sings of her “reputación” as “reputa…ción.”
