Danna Paola made a surprise appearance at the MTV MIAW Awards (MTV Millennial Awards) on July 8 in Mexico City. The Mexican pop star joined Moderatto to perform their cover of the RBD classic “Sólo Quédate En Silencio.”

Moderatto dialed it back to 2005 when the band performed “Sólo Quédate En Silencio” at the event. The Mexican rock group’s frontman Jay de la Cueva rocked a red latex bodysuit. Danna appeared on the stage in a white dress, drawing loud cheers from the audience. The “Agüita” singer and de la Cueva had the crowd rocking out to their collaboration cover, released earlier this year. Danna really went all in to give a passionate performance, closing out the show — which was definitely the best moment from MTV MIAW.

During the ceremony, Danna also won an award for Celebrity Crush. On the music front this year, she has been mostly quiet since the release of her album K.O. last year. The LP garnered the “Calla Tú” singer her first Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Last month, she made an appearance at LGBTQ+ Pride in Mexico City where she kissed a fan and performed her queer classic “Agüita.”

Starting this year, Moderatto began rolling out their covers of RBD’s classic songs. The band’s first release was “Nuestro Amor” alongside RBD’ s own Anahí. The Mexican band has since covered “Ser o Parecer” with Aczino and Nicole Favre, “Este Corazón” with Chilean pop star Denise Rosenthal, and “Sálvame” with Spanish singer Aitana. There’s no word yet if the songs will lead to a larger RBD tribute release from Moderatto.

Moderatto’s covers are pretty timely, considering that Rebelde was revived recently on Netflix. The second season of the reboot series will start airing on July 27.
