Shakira went viral this week thanks to “BZRP Music Sessions #53,” her diss track against her ex-partner Gerard Piqué. Today (Jan. 13), the Spanish soccer player finally responded to Shakira’s collaboration with Bizarrap.
On Wednesday, Shakira teamed up with Bizarrap to release “BZRP Music Sessions #53.” In the scorching kiss-off track, she calls out Piqué and his current girlfriend, Clara Chía Marti, with clever wordplay. Shakira evoked Piqué’s name with the word “salpiqué” while using “claramente” to allude to Marti. The song especially went viral because Shakira compared Piqué starting a relationship with Marti to downgrading to a Casio watch or a Twingo car. “You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded in a Rolex for a Casio,” she sings in Spanish.
In his first response to Shakira’s diss track, “BZRP Music Sessions #53,” Piqué referenced her lyric about the Casio watch. While streaming on Twitch for a Kings League event, he announced that the group now has a partnership with Casio. “We’ve reached an agreement with Casio,” Piqué said. “We’ve reached an agreement with Casio for the Kings League.” When asked if he was joking, Piqué added, “I’m serious. I have one right here.” He then pulled out a box with a Casio watch inside.
The guys that were with Piqué during the livestream asked why they entered into a partnership with Casio. Argentine soccer player Sergio Agüero, who is also known as Kun, said in deadpan, “Because of Shakira’s song.”
Earlier this week, Casio also responded to Shakira’s lyrics that implied its watches were a downgrade. In the post on Twitter, the company’s Education Division posted a picture of Daft Punk from an episode of Family Guy. One of the French duo’s members is seen holding a Casio keyboard. “Today we got quite a few notifications for a mention of CASIO in a song,” the brand wrote. “CASIO watches and keyboards and calculators are for life.”
