WATCH: Juanes Joins Ryan Castro for the Cumbia Christmas Banger ‘El Chucu Chucu’

Ryan Castro is ringing in the holidays with a Colombian rock icon. Last night (Dec. 5), he released the music video for “El Chucu Chucu” featuring Juanes. In the playful video, both artists embrace the sounds of their roots in Medellín.
Back in May, Castro released his debut album El Cantante del Ghetto. The rising star in Colombia’s reggaeton scene later embarked on a joint tour of the U.S. with Blessd this past year. Last month, Castro and Blessd were tapped by Karol G to feature on the all-star collaboration “+57” with Feid, J Balvin, Maluma, and DFZM. Now, he is joining forces with another one of Colombia’s biggest stars, Juanes, for the festive “El Chucu Chucu.”
“Working with Juanes on ‘Chucu Chucu’ is a dream come true,” Castro shared in a statement. “His music has been a part of my life since I was a kid, and now to create something together that celebrates our Christmas roots and traditions is special. ¡Que viva Colombia!”
Castro has made it a tradition to drop new music every December to kick off the holidays. This year, Juanes is joining him on the feel-good “El Chucu Chucu,” produced by SOG. They embrace the tropical “chucu-chucu” rhythms of Medellín, also called sonido paisa. Juanes blends his rock edge with Castro’s el movimiento swagger in this vintage banger that will have people dancing in Colombia and beyond this Christmas season.
“I love that so many years later we can dance again to this chucuchucu [sound],” Juanes said. “Thank you Ryan Castro for the invitation and the interest in reviving this Christmas tradition and this genre from our roots.”
In the music video for “El Chucu Chucu,” Ryan Castro becomes his very paisa alter ego named Richy. Juanes gets in on the fun and plays Richy’s cousin Toño. Last month, Juanes made his formal acting debut in Pimpinero: Blood and Oil, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
