Attention all Bichotas: Karol G is officially ringing in the summer with new music! On June 20, the Colombian pop star released “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” a rhythmic merengue pop track recorded in the Dominican Republic.
Before releasing the track in collaboration with Coke Studio, Karol performed a part of it during her show in London. She wrote online: “Yesterday I sang a little bit of my new song ‘Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido’ here in London and I don’t know what I loved more… the energy of the people, that I could finally dance it publicly after dancing it alone with my friends, or the flag of the Dominican Republic that you can see in the background ♥️.”
She continued to praise the Dominican Republic by saying it’s a country she owes a lot to. She worked on part of her last album Mañana Será Bonito there, and it’s a place where she goes when she needs to disconnect, she shared. “Its culture, music, colors, hospitality, energy… everything feels very authentic and special there… Their people have embraced me in a way that fills my Cora and inspires me all the time,” she wrote. “Today this song comes out [and] the video comes out that I also recorded there and that represents the flavor not only of a country, but of our Latin community all over the world… joyful, happy, beautiful, contagious !!!! I can’t wait for you to dance to it too 🌴🇩🇴🇨🇴♥️ TODAY!!!!!”
Directed by Pedro Artola, the new music video features Karol as a waitress working at a small business called Verano Rosa Bar. The music video follows Karol being encouraged to sing karaoke by her co-worker and the bar’s audience. When she grabs the microphone, she captivates the public as she charismatically sings her new summer hit produced by herself, Edgar Barrera, and Sky Rompiendo. Other shots highlight the Dominican Republic’s rhythmic ambiance, with people dancing and enjoying each other as they hear and vibe to the song. It also highlights Latin American flags from countries like Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, and more.
Up next, Karol will continue her European tour with dates in France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and Spain.
