Omar Apollo is fully singing in Spanish again. This morning (Nov. 21), the Mexican-American pop star released the music video for his new song “Te Maldigo.” In the cinematic visual, Omar portrays his character from the upcoming film Queer.

Back in July, Omar Apollo revealed he would make his acting debut in the movie Queer. The film is set in Mexico City in the 1950s and was directed by Luca Guadagnino, who was also at the helm of Challengers earlier this year. The singer’s co-stars in Queer include former James Bond actor Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey. He plays a local bar singer who catches the attention of Craig’s character. The stunning music video for “Te Maldigo,” which was also directed by Guadagnino, shows a suave Omar playing his Queer character and performing the song.

“Te Maldigo” is Omar Apollo’s first song recorded fully in Spanish since “En El Olvido” from 2022’s Ivory album. Earlier this year, he sang a few lyrics in Spanish in the song “Empty” for his LP God Said No. Omar returns to embracing bolero in the new emotional ballad about feeling heartbroken. “Te Maldigo” was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who both composed the score for Queer and are members of the band Nine Inch Nails. Omar sounds great in any language, but his soulful voice just hits different in Spanish.

Over the weekend, Omar Apollo hit the stage at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in L.A. He was recently spotted in the recording studio with the rising Mexican group Latin Mafia, who also performed at the festival. Back in August, Omar recorded a live cover of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Please Please Please” in a corrido version

Queer will first premiere in New York City, NY, and Los Angeles, CA, on Nov. 27. The movie will then open in theaters nationwide on Dec. 13.
