Rauw Alejandro was looking past YouTube and Vevo to premiere the music video for “Corazón Despeinado.” Today (Dec. 15), the Puerto Rican superstar became the first Latine artist to release a music video through TikTok U.S.
“Corazón Despeinado” is one of the songs on Rauw’s futuristic album Saturno. It’s one of the moments where he branched outside reggaeton, blending influences of rock and new wave with elements of electronica. He sang about the rush of getting caught up in a toxic relationship. The racing love song features background vocals from Rauw’s girlfriend, the Spanish pop star Rosalía.
When premiering the music video for “Corazón Despeinado,” he revealed it would only be available on TikTok. He also mentioned that he’s the first Latine artist to release a music video on the popular video platform.
“Only for TikTok,” the “Todo De Ti” singer wrote on Twitter. “For my fans on TikTok and for my haters as well. First music video from a Latino that was made for TikTok US.”
In the “Corazón Despeinado” music video, Rauw channels the ’90s and 2000s. In a nod to Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” he plays a Ken doll inside a dollhouse. A girl plays with the Rauw doll and moves him around the house. When he sings the lyric about “alternative” and “mainstream” music, he points to the names of his past albums Afrodisíaco and Vice Versa, respectively. Rauw also channels Dance Dance Revolution as he grooves to his song on a dance arcade machine called “Rauw It Up!”
The “Corazón Despeinado” video comes one week after he released the video for “De Carolina” on YouTube. While returning to his hometown of Carolina, Puerto Rico, he was joined by reggaeton music pioneer DJ Playero. Rauw will kick off the Saturno World Tour next year in the Dominican Republic. The U.S. leg of the tour launches on Mar. 5 in Tampa, FL. He will be joined on tour by the Jabbawockeez.
