Juanes is recounting the legend of a beloved vigilante in his new song. Last night (December 14), the Colombian icon released “Nacimos Solos” from the Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation of Zorro.

Zorro was first popularized by the Walt Disney series in 1957. The character became a sex symbol in 1998 when Spanish actor Antonio Banderas played him in The Mask of Zorro. Banderas donned the black mask again for the 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro

Now, Zorro will return to TV through an upcoming series by Prime Video. Spanish actor Miguel Bernardeau, known for previously starring in Elite, will take on the role of Zorro. Ahead of its release next year, we’re getting a first taste of the new adaptation with a musical release. Juanes lends his vocals to a song from Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello titled “Nacimos Solos,” which will be featured on the Zorro soundtrack.

“Zorro is perhaps the only story that unites the United States, Mexico, and Spain in a very interesting historical context,” Copello said in a statement. “‘Nacimos Solos’ is a portrait of the unbearable loneliness of a human being faced with survival in adverse and hostile circumstances.”

Juanes blends his Latin rock edge with Mexican-infused rhythms in “Nacimos Solos.” He sings about the Spanish California era of Zorro, where rich people looked out for themselves while the poor suffered. Juanes also highlights Zorro’s motivations to become the masked crusader. “I’d rather be an outlaw instead of being complicit in manipulation,” he sings in Spanish.

“I always wanted to work with Julio Reyes Copello, and I liked the song from the moment he sent it, as it felt like it was created as a perfect fit for me,” Juanes added. “I also love to share music that reaches people and sets a tone within such a filmed project.”

Prime Video’s Zorro will be released sometime in 2024. Next year, Juanes will also kick off the U.S. leg of his Vida Cotidiana World in Portland, OR on February 13.
