Bad Bunny is making his return to the WWE. But this time, it’s all happening back home in Puerto Rico and with a twist.

The last time Bad Bunny participated in a WWE live event was in 2022. He battled it out in the Royal Rumble and was one of the last five wrestlers standing. Brock Lesner, who won the Royal Rumble, was the one who ejected Bad Bunny from the ring. The year prior, Bad Bunny held the WWE 24/7 Championship for 28 days after aligning with fellow Puerto Rican wrestler Damian Priest.

Now Bad Bunny is going to host WWE’s Backlash, which will take place at Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan on Saturday, May 6, 2023. This marks the first WWE premium live event to take place on the island since January 2005.

“In 2005 when I was a kid, I wasn’t able to attend New Year’s Revolution at el Coliseo,” Bad Bunny said in a statement according to the WWE. “Finally, 18 years later WWE returns to the island with a massive event, and this time I won’t miss it.”

It’s not yet known if Bad Bunny’s hosting duties might see him get pulled into the ring once again. But WWE wrestling icon Triple H, who is now Chief Content Officer for the brand, is happy to be bringing wrestling to Puerto Rico with Bad Bunny set to host.

“We’re excited to bring ‘Backlash’ to San Juan as the demand for WWE premium live events outside of the continental United States continues to grow,” Paul “Triple H” Levesque said. “Bad Bunny is one of the world’s most popular entertainers and nowhere is that more evident than in his native Puerto Rico.”

Bad Bunny will step into the virtual ring for the WWE 2K23 video game. Customers who pre-order the Standard Edition and Cross-Gen Bundle (or those who buy the Deluxe Edition or Icon Edition at the launch of the game), will receive access to unlocking Benito as a wrestler. A “special Ruby tier MyFaction card” will also be included with the Bad Bunny bonus bundle.  The Deluxe and Icon Editions of the game will be released on March 14. The standard edition will follow on March 17.
