Drag is an art form that can be used to tell a powerful story. That is exactly what Salina EsTitties did on the latest runway on Season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The queen took a moment to use her fashion and time on stage to share a story that millions of people can relate to about seeking a better life. Her outfit was inspired by her mother’s own journey crossing the Mexico/U.S. border at 17 years old.

Dressed with a tattered cobija and a Mexican-inspired dress, Salina EsTitties wanted her look to tell the story of women who are fleeing for a better life for themselves and their family. The moment is a beautiful depiction of the struggle that millions of people have experienced around the world as they have fled to other countries.

Fans flooded her Instagram post highlighting the outfit with comments celebrating the use of her art to bring attention to something so many don’t fully understand.

“THIS is what drag is ABOUT HONEY,” justjolopez wrote on Instagram. “They preach that drag reveals who we are. You were able to reveal where we COME FROM. So proud to have worked with you on this. love you.  Forever and always your fan! ❤️”

Some fans felt like they were getting a glimpse into who she is as a person and being unapologetic about it.

“You made me cry tonight girl,” lareina._.danae wrote on Instagram. “Absolutely stunning and I loved you and your family’s story. You’re an inspiration ❤️”

With other fans expressed that it was exactly where they expected her artistry to go.

“I understood your artistry when I first you entered the Werqroom,” pratherray wrote on Instagram. “This is beautiful, powerful, and relatable. 🙌🏾💕”

Drag is transcendent and can create a visceral response by digging deep into someone’s identity. Salina EsTitties brought her full identity to the runway with this look and we are lucky to get to witness this kind of artistic moment that celebrates immigrant families and their struggles.
